Hibs defender Riley Harbottle joins Colchester United on loan

Hibs have today revealed that defender Riley Harbottle has joined Colchester United.

The former Nottingham Forest kid has joined the EFL League Two side on loan for the rest of the season.

23-year-old Harbottle joined the Hibees in the summer from Forest for an undisclosed six-figure fee, but has only managed TWO appearances in the green and white.

Speaking to the official club website Hibs boss Nick Montgomery said:

“At this stage of Riley’s career it’s imperative that he goes out and gains regular football.

“Gametime has been limited for him this season and he needs to continue developing. We hope he embraces this challenge and it’s a successful loan spell where he plays week in, week out.”

HIBS-MAD VIEW:

A good move for Riley.

It's clear Monty doesn't think he is ready for the first team, so loaning him out to a side in a lower quality league will give him a chance to develop.

Riley, of course, has previous experience of the league, where he played nearly 40 games on loan with Mansfield last season, scoring 6 goals.

Good luck Riley!!
