Hibernian-Mad understand that
Swansea City and Barnsley have joined the race for the signature of Hibs Irish international winger Alan O'Brien.

Preston North End and
Hartlepool have already been credited with an interest in the former Newcastle United youngster.

The 23-year-old speed demon signed for the Hibees last summer in a blaze of publicity, after the Hibees stumped up £350,000 in compensation to release him from his deal at St James' Park.

O'Brien signed a three-year-deal at the Hibees and reportedly became the Hibees highest paid player on £4,000-a-week, with Hibs breaking their wage structure to land him.

When O'Brien arrived at Easter Road huge things were expected from the five times capped
Republic of Ireland player, but he has, so far, failed to impress in the SPL.

Another English side, Crewe Alexandra, tried to sign O'Brien on loan during the January transfer window, only for him to pull out of the deal at the last minute and they are also thought to be monitoring his situation at the Leith San Siro.

Could letting O'Brien go prove to be a massive mistake on Hibs part?? He has been plagued with injury this season and has only started three games in a Hibs shirt and has also made sporadic appearances from the bench, surely he must be given more time??

How can a player deemed good enough to be offered a new contract at Newcastle United in the English Premiership not hack it in Scotland?? I thought our league was "Mickey Mouse?"
