Birmingham
City
boss Alex McLeish has today joined the race to sign Hibs superb left back David Murphy.

The Blues boss is a long time admirer of the Hibees defender and it is thought that he is weighing up a £1.5m bid for the player in January.

Wigan, Rangers and Celtic have all already been linked with an interest in the player and they could all be set to bid once the January transfer window opens.

McLeish will offer the Hibs defender a weekly wage in the region of £25,000 a week should he be successful in the capture of the player.

His agent Willie McKay, who seems to love to unsettle Hibs best players, has stated in the press today the players desire to leave Easter Road.

Hibs are thought to be after £2m for Murphy and with two and a half years still to run on his deal, Hibs hold all the aces, no matter how much his agent protests.....

McKay said:

"David is a left-back (AYE WELL SPOTTED! Does that mean his valuation goes down? what nonsense!) so what kind of money do they think they can get for someone who has told them that he wants to play at a higher level?

"It is not as if I am causing problems because he asked to leave before I became his agent.

"He has asked to get away in the past and again in June so that tells them he wants to leave."

Hibs will face a tough fight to keep the outstanding defender at Easter Road, let's hope the board show as much bravery as they did with the Scott Brown and Kevin Thomson situations and get the fee the club deserve for nurturing the player from Premiership cast off to arguably the best full back in the SPL.
