Celtic linked with January move for Hibs defender Josh Doig

Last updated : 21 December 2021 By Steve Forbes

Celtic have today been linked with a possible move for Hibs wonderkid Josh Doig.

According to Alan Nixon at the Sun, Doig, along with Barnsley defender Callum Styles have been targeted for the left back position at Parkhead.

Doig, 19, has been a revelation for the Hibees since breaking through to the first team last season, with the Hibees having already turned down a £2.5m offer from Watford for the player, and the likes of AC Milan, Chelsea, Arsenal and Man City linked with the player.

The full-back recently signed a new deal at Easter Road, running until the summer of 2026 and it would take a massive offer to tempt the Hibees to sell.

According to reports in the summer, Hibs were thought to have been looking for bids to start in the 4-5m range.

Doig has played 55 times for the Hibees, scoring 1 goal.

Hibernian-Mad View:

Doig has been linked with a move away from Easter Road from pretty much his first few weeks in the first team.

He has been excellent since breaking through, and sooner or later will probably move on.

However, given Celtic's past and their tin-pot offers for our best players, you can bet they try to low-ball us if they do come in for young Josh.

Hibs need to play hard ball not except the type of offers they made for John McGinn, that seen him eventually end up at Aston Villa.

The club also need to remember the famous line that came out of the East-End of Glasgow when the Hibees had signed Scott Allan on a pre-contract from Parkhead and wanted him through the door early and they blocked it - "Dont do Hibs any favours".

We urge the club to send the same message straight back.
