Colchester United boss Paul Lambert has admitted that he is still interested in Hibs captain Rob Jones.

The Hibees have already turned down two pathetic offers from the English League One side, £100,000 and £250,000 for the big defender.

6ft 7in Jones has been in excellent form as of late and the Hibees are determined to keep hold of the player, with boss Mixu Paatelainen insisting Jones would not be sold in the January transfer window.

Lambert has now revealed that he will be back with a third bid for the player, he said:

"The latest offer was substantially improved, but Hibs said it was not acceptable. I'll speak to my chairman and see what happens, but our interest in Rob is not dead. He is their best player."

Ex Celtic and Scotland midfielder Lambert also joked about how much it would take to prise Jones from Hibs, he said:

"I think Hibs want about £20million for him so we'll have to increase our offer!"

If Lambert thinks Jones is our best player, does he really expect Hibs to even contemplate selling him at bids of £100,000 - £250,000???

Jones is our cup winning captain and has improved ten-fold since signing from Grimsby Town for £150,000 in 2006.

Hibs have sold players to the tune of £15m over the last 2-3 years, the club does not need to sell the player.

With Sheffield United, Ipswich Town, Bristol City, Leeds Utd and Crystal Palace also thought to be in the running, bids of £1m-£1.5m will be the kind of money that will tempt Hibs in to selling.

Think again Mr Lambert....
