English side Crewe Alexandra are set to up the ante as they chase out-of-favour Hibs striker Clayton Donaldson.

The 24-year-old former York City and Halifax Town forward is thought to be the subject of a £200,000 bid from League 1 side and his exit from Easter Road could be sealed within days.

The bid includes £150,000 up front and a further £50,000 after so many appearances for Alexandra.

Donaldson has been told by manager Mixu Paatelainen that he won't feature next season and he has been placed on the transfer list.

Oldham Athletic, Darlington and also Inverness Caledonian Thistle are thought to be monitoring his situation.

Donaldson scored 6 goals in 18 appearances last season for the Hibees but struggled to oust Scotland international Steven Fletcher and Colin Nish from the striking roles at E.R.

He arrived at the Hibees last summer on a pre-contract agreement, three-year-deal from York City.

Crewe boss Steve Holland is keen to add Donaldson to his squad, following the sale of Nicky Maynard to Bristol City for £2.25m a couple of days ago, and he could have played his last game in a Hibs shirt.
