Fabian Yantorno winning his battle for a contract at Hibs!

Last updated : 30 June 2008 By Steve Forbes

Hibs boss Mixu Paatelainen has revealed that former
Gretna midfielder Fabian Yantorno is winning his fitness battle and could be on the verge of signing a contract with Hibs.

Yantorno, 25, snapped his cruciate ligament while paying for
Gretna against Falkirk in a challenge with keeper Tim Krul.

Doomed Gretna couldn't afford to pay for his rehabilitation and Paatelainen stepped in to help and offered the player the chance to prove his fitness at Hibs new £5m state-of-the-art training facility at East Mains in Tranent, and earn himself a contract at Easter Road.

The exciting Uruguayan can play in midfield, behind the front two or up front and big Mixu has been impressed, he said:

"Fabian's great.

He's improving, training hard and has a great attitude.

"He's now kicking the ball and running with the group. Fabian can't take part in games or drills but is kicking a ball under supervision.

"So there is a possibility he could be fit for the first game.

"We don't have him tied up right now - we've basically done him a favour and said we will take it from there.

"But if he gets fit he could be in a Hibs jersey. Fabian needs to be patient and so do we. He's an exciting player but if he comes back too early he could hit a setback."

Let's hope the lad recovers and Hibs are impressed enough to snap him up, he was Gretna's one and only stand out player in their doomed season in the SPL, if we can get him back to his best, he could prove to be a bargain signing.
