Former Hibs boss John Collins has tonight been appointed manager of Belgian First Division side RSC Charleroi.

Collins has taken over the management reigns from Thierry Siquet and hopes to bring better results to Charleroi, who currently sit 11th in the Belgian league.

The Hibees legend has been out of work since he quit the Easter Road hot-seat just months after winning the Scottish League Cup and just one day after the new £5m state-of-the-art training facility opened at East Mains, Tranent.

The 40-year-old stated that he had taken Hibs as far as he could with the finances at his disposal.

Collins seemed delighted to be appointed RSC Charleroi boss, speaking to Belgian TV, he said:

"I have discovered very motivated and enthusiastic people in charge here and a very ambitious club. I hope to contribute to an improvement in results.

"My method? A round ball - and no question of the long ball. We have to play constructively,"

One person who will be delighted with the news is Hibs forward Abdessalam Benjelloun, currently on loan at the Belgian side from Hibs, who was part of Collins cup winning side.

Benjelloun looked to be on his way back to Easter Road in January, but Collins appointment could change all that for the Moroccan forward.

Tommy Craig, Collins former assistant at Easter Road, will take up the same role at RSC Charleroi.
