Hellas Verona enter the race for Hibs defender Josh Doig

According to the Scotsman, Italian side Hellas Verona have entered the race to sign Hibs defender Josh Doig.

The Serie A club have apparently moved ahead of fellow Italian side Bolonga in the race to sign the 20-year-old.

Doig has been linked with Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United and Leeds this summer, and was previously linked with the likes of AC Milan, Man City and Chelsea last year.

The Hibees even went as far as to reject a reported £2.8m offer from Watford last summer.

However, the report claims it would take in excess of £1.5m to land  Doig, but other reports have the Leithers looking for £3m-£4m.

Left-back Doig has played 78 times for Hibs, scoring 1 goal and is contracted to Easter Road until the summer of 2025.

HIBS-MAD VIEW:

Another week, another club being linked with Josh.

He had an outstanding debut season, before another good season last year.

Although he did start slow but looked back to his best come the end of the season

The Scotsman article seems way-off in his valuation though, there is just no way Hibs will accept bids over £1.5m, a year after rejecting £2,8m and tying him down to a long-term deal.

Aberdeen have set the bar here, Doig is as good as the lad Ramsay that the Sheep have just sold to Liverpool in a deal that could eventually net them a reported £8m.

Hibs will surely be looking for £3-5m up-front with plenty of add-ons built into any deal should Doig leave.
