Hibs manager John Collins has tipped Portugal U21 winger Filipe Morais to be a major player in this Sunday's Edinburgh derby at Easter Road.

Morais, 22, arrived in
Edinburgh after being released by Millwall in the summer, following a disappointing time after his move there from Chelsea.

He spent some time on loan at St Johnstone last season and played against the Hibees in the CIS Cup Semi Final at Tynecastle last season while at the Saints.

John Collins has been impressed with his input so far this season and has predicted that the winger has a big part to play on Sunday.

The Hibees boss said:

"Filipe is a big player for us now.

"He has proved in a short period of time he can turn matches. He has been a terrific signing.

"He has an abundance of talent, great close control, speed, running with the ball at his feet, making penetrating runs and looking to commit defenders.

"Filipe is one of those players who gets the crowd up on their feet. He missed pre-season with us which was a shame but he has worked really hard in training, he's getting fitter and we are delighted with his attitude.

"He's fitted in from day one and he's a highly popular figure among the other lads in the dressing room.

"I like to think I can see talent. Filipe has exceptional talent and I saw it instantly. For one reason or another it didn't work out for him elsewhere but he's been an absolute bargain.

"Players with his talent don't come along too often on a free transfer. Being the type of player he is, his performances against Celtic and Rangers will have lifted his confidence.

"We ask him to take the game to the opposition, to be creative and he thrives on confidence.

"It's up to me to give him confidence but he also gets that from the fans by putting on performances.

"The fact he can do it against the big boys tells you something. And if he can do it against the likes of Celtic and Rangers then he can do it against anyone.

"Certain players rise to the big occasion and so far that's been the case with Filipe.

We have quality on that side of the pitch with Dean Shiels and Merouane Zemmama, like Filipe attacking players who aren't midfielders nor are they out-and-out strikers.

"There's a lot of competition for places and Filipe had to wait for his chance. But he's certainly made a big impression."

Hopefully the Hibees manager is correct, Morais has bags of skill and tricks and is full of running, if he plays let's hope he gives a Hearts a massive headache.
