Hibs defender Paul Hanlon signs new deal

Hibs have today revealed that long serving defender Paul Hanlon has signed a new deal with the club.

The 26-year-old has signed a new 3-year-contract that will tie him to Easter Road until the summer of 2019.

A number of clubs had been linked with the player, including Aberdeen and Rotherham, but the Scotland U21 cap is staying with his boyhood club.

Speaking to the official club website, the classy defender said:

“I’m delighted to extend my stay for another three seasons.

“There is a real excitement following the end to the season and with Neil coming in, and I’m looking forward to getting started again.

“The fans have been brilliant with me throughout my time here, and it’s great to see so many signed up for next season already.

“I’m now determined to build on our success from last season and get Hibs back to the Premiership.”

Hanlon made his debut for the club way back in January 2008, against Inverness in a Scottish Cup tie and has never looked back.

He has played 281 times for the club, scoring 15 goals. Hanlon has also been capped at U19 & U21 level for Scotland, and is, of course, now guaranteed legendary status at Easter Road, after becoming part of the first Hibs side in 114 years, to the lift the Scottish Cup just 3 weeks ago against The Rangers at Hampden.

A fantastic first piece of business by new manager Neil Lennon.
