Hibs defender Ryan Porteous has today been unvieled as a Watford player.

The 23-year-old Scotland international has joined the club in a deal worth £500,000. The deal also includes a sell-on clause, with a pre-season friendly also said to be part of the deal.

Porto has signed a 4-and-a-half-year-deal with the London based Championship club.

It brings an end to months of speculation about his future, with numerous clubs being linked with the player, including Blackburn and Udinese who both had bids turned down for the player.

The Liked of Sheffied Wednesday, Stoke City, French club Toulouse and Sunderland have all been linked with the defender.

Porteous came through the academy at Easter Road, and has gone on to make 157 appearances and scored 13 goals for the Hibees.

Hibs boss Lee Johnson said:

“Porto is a great example of how players from our excellent Academy can progress into the First Team and make a real difference.

“He has a strong will to win, and we will miss him. I have no doubt that he will go on and have a really successful career. We wish him all the best at Watford.”

HIBS-MAD VIEW:

Good luck to him, it's a good move and I'm sure a lucrative one for him.

He will be a huge miss for the Hibees, but it's good to see he got out of the Scottish Football fishbowl which was hampering his career, with the awful decisions against him and the behaviour of fans of certain clubs towards him.

Good luck Ryan, go smash it kid.
