Hibs eyeing Efe Ambrose return?

Last updated : 17 November 2019 By Steve Forbes

According to rumours on social media, Hibs are closing in on the signing of former defender Efe Ambrose.

The 31-year-old Nigerian international left Easter Road last January, after exercising a clause in his contract, that let him cancel the last 6 months of his contract with the club, should a club from the English Championship, or higher, came in for him.

That club was Derby County, and despite impressing then Rams boss Frank Lampard and winning a deal until the end of the season, Ambrose never made one appearance for the Pride Park club.

It's now like wildfire on twitter that Hibs have apprently already signed, or are close agreeing a return to Easter Road.

As we write this, according to the Mail on Sunday newspaper, the Hibees are fighting it out with St Johnstone to secure an Easter Road return for Ambrose.

Hibs could secure the former Celtic defender immediately, as he is a free agent, and is currently training with his home town team back in Nigeria.

New Hibs boss Jack Ross could be about to make his first signing.

Editor's View:

Efe would be an excellent signing for the Hibees.

His partnership with Ryan Porteous looked an incredible one, that was gelling nicely, as he left to join Derby last January.

The only stumbling block could be his contract, Hibs can't give the former Celtic man an"out" in his deal this time.

The fact he used this to get out the club the first time, still leaves a bit of a bitter taste.
