Hibs fail in bid to make Gordon Strachan Director of Football

It has been reevaled today that Hibs failed in a sensational move to appoint Gordon Strachan as Director of Football.

Hibs wanted boyhood supporter Starchan in an advisory role to new manager Pat Fenlon, but the former Scotland international quickly knocked the offer back.

Speaking about job offers he has had, one that included the same position at Celtic, Strachan said:

"I have not applied for one single job since I left Middlesbrough and I doubt if I EVER will.

"I'm just not interested in returning to management.

"I'm very content and happy with my voluntary work trying to help 16 to 18-year-olds.

"There have been a couple of offers where I could not be a manager but involved in some way. But the circumstances weren't right. I'm in a position where I can pick and choose and say it has to be right for my lifestyle. And my lifestyle is I want to spend more time with my family.Unless somebody really wants you and is going to drive up to your door and say 'You're the man for us', I'm happy.

"The other job was similar, with a younger manager, and I said 'You need to be careful because it looks like I am operating you from the back and I am not wanting that'.

"If you are letting a guy coach, HE coaches, that's the way it is. If I was going to do that advisor thing I'd say 'You are the coach, let me know if you want advice afterwards'."

A bold move from the Hibees, one that would have been pretty exciting, should it have been pulled off.
