It has been revealed this afternoon that Hibs' English forward, Clayton Donaldson, has broken his finger and will miss Saturday's Dundee United game.

Donaldson apparently broke it in a freak training ground accident and has been told by specialists not to risk the injury this weekend, despite his eagerness to play.

Hibs physio Colin McLelland said of the injury:

"We're actually not quite certain as to when it happened but we think it occurred in training when the middle finger of his left hand got caught when he was backing into another player.

"Clayton himself isn't sure, the finger just became more and more sore so we sent him for an X-ray which disclosed the finger is displaced and fractured in a couple of places.

"I know supporters will say it's a finger and he's a football player so what's the problem? Clayton's also been saying the same thing and obviously wants to play on Saturday.

"But we have taken advice from a number of consultants and, while Clayton's got protection on the finger, the fear is that further damage could be caused if he was to fall on it or take a knock as the digit is unstable."
