Hibs forward Clayton Donaldson plays down talk of move to Crewe

Last updated : 26 February 2008 By Steve Forbes

Hibs forward Clayton Donaldson has today played down talk of a loan move to English League One side Crewe Alexandra.

The English hitman had been linked with a move back South after struggling to hold down a regular place at Easter Road.

Donaldson, 24, has played 16 games for the Hibees and scored 6 goals in the process, including a hat-trick against
Kilmarnock, but has insisted he would rather stay and fight for his place at Hibs and also insisted he had heard nothing of the interest from Crewe.

Donaldson said:

"I don't know anything about
Crewe, I'm a Hibs player until anyone tells me otherwise. I 'm focused on getting back in the team and doing a job for Hibs.

"It's been disappointing recently because I want to be playing in every game, as every player does.

"But I know the two lads playing up front have done well. I've got to be patient and keep working and hopefully I'll get my chance.

"I can't go and knock on the manager's door as the team's doing well and we've won our last three games."

The Hibees forward is hoping to force himself back into Hibs manager Mixu Paatelainen's thought's by impressing in the reserve side over the coming weeks, starting with Celtic. He said:

"I've been drafted in for the reserve game to keep my match fitness and sharpness up. Hopefully, I can show I'm still fit and can impress.

"I scored in both games against Falkirk and if I can do well in the reserves then maybe I can force myself into the squad. Everyone has a dip in form during the season and I need to be ready to step in if it happens to anyone else."

Donaldson has struggled a bit with the step up to the SPL, Let's hope big Mixu can find an extra couple of gears from the big Englishman and add his quality to the players already there, Steven Fletcher, Colin Nish and Benji.
