Hibs new boy Martin Canning has revealed that it was former Hearts player John Robertson that had a hand in getting him to Easter Road.

Canning, 26, was freed by
Gretna in January and was thought to be on the verge of signing for high flying first division side Queen of the South.

Hibees boss Mixu Paatelainen signed Canning up on an 18-month-deal, but the player revealed that if it wasn't for Robertson (hiss! boo!) then he may have ended up somewhere else, he said:

"I had four other offers in the SPL and four or five in the First Division but Hibs are a big club and I was happy to come here on trial.

"John Robertson phoned me when he found out I'd got out of my contract at Gretna and told me Hibs were interested.

"I wasn't enjoying Gretna. I was due money for the rest of my contract but I waived it just to get away.

"There are two good players, Rob Jones and Chris Hogg, in front of me and playing well but I'm desperate to get involved."
