Hibs boss Mixu Paatelainen continued his cull at Easter Road today, when he released young defender Dermot McCaffrey.

The Northern Ireland U21 internationalist has left Easter Road and immediately joined SPL side
Falkirk on a three-year-deal.

McCaffrey, 22, arrived at Easter Road over four years ago and was signed by former boss Tony Mowbray after being spotted playing in his native
Northern Ireland.

He spent the whole of the current season on loan at first division side Livingston, making 30 appearances at Almondvale, he has also spent time on loan at Queen of the South during the 2006/07 season, making 15 appearances.

McCaffrey only featured once in a Hibs jersey, when he was red carded at Pittodrie at the end of last season in a 2-2 draw.

Hibs boss Mixu Paatelainen said:

"I went to watch Dermot a couple of times at
Livingston. He is a good player but we have very tough competition for places at centre-half and I felt 'why stop his progress'.

"If we had kept him he'd probably have gone out on loan again which wouldn't have served any purpose. To me it's better he go somewhere, play first-team football and further his progress."

McCaffrey joins Curier, Ayre and Noubissie out the exit door at Easter Road.

Good luck in the future Dermot from everyone at Hibernian-Mad.
