Hibs are said to be close to a deal that will see former Celtic, Aston Villa and Scotland forward Shaun Maloney take over as new manager of the club.

The 39-year-old has become the favourite to replace Jack Ross in the Easter Road hot-seat and an announcement is said to be close.

Maloney is currently a coach with the Belgian National side, working under former Everton, Swansea City and Wigan boss Roberto Martinez.

He is expected to be in place over the next few days, and is to appoint former Hibs defender Gary Caldwell as his no.2.

Hibernian-Mad View:

This looks like it's close to a done deal, and it's an ambitious move from the club.

Maloney is well thought of as a coach and Hibs will be hoping he can make the step-up.

Tis could be an exciting move for the Hibees should the deal go through.
