Hibs have today announced that yet another exciting youngster has put pen to paper, on a new deal at Easter Road.

18-year-old midfielder Scott Taggart has signed a new two-year-deal with the Hibees.

Taggart follows in the footsteps of fellow U19 player Scott Smith, who also signed a new deal earlier in the week.

The Glasgow born youngster has just been voted the clubs Academy Player of the Year, and his award was the new contract.

Both Taggart and Smith both played for the Hibees U19 side, that won the treble the year before last, but were young enough to stay on another year at the Academy.

Taggart was delighted with the deal, he told the official club website:

"It's brilliant that I will be here for the next few years. I'm just keeping my head down and working hard, and having been around the first team training over the past year, it's definitely where I want to be.

"I was involved in a few squads toward the end of last season, and the Gaffer is encouraging me to kick on and push for a place on a regular basis - just like David Wotherspoon did last year.

I can't wait until we get back training in July."

Boss John Hughes was also delighted, he said:

"The Academy continues to produce the homegrown talent this club is famous for.

"As I've said to all the young players trying to burst through, the door is wide open for the likes of Taggs to come on and prove they have what it takes to be a first team regular. I want the young boys to come through and challenge."
