Hibs boss Mixu Paatelainen has today revealed that young Canadian midfielder Keegan Ayre is to be released by the club.
Ayre, 19, arrived at Easter Road while Tony Mowbray was manager at the club and the Hibees fought off Hearts and
Keegan was voted the Canadian Young Player of the Year a couple of seasons back and was exected to excel at Easter Road.
Ayre, who arrived in 2005 from Canadian side British Columbia, also played in the Uefa U20 World Cup in his native Canada in the summer.
He has recently been out on loan at second division side Berwick Rangers, but has been told his contract will not be renewed when he returns.
Paatelainen said:
"Keegan has been here for a few years but it's been difficult when we've had the likes of Lewis Stevenson and Ross Chisholm establishing themselves.
"It's heartbreaking to have to make these decisions but I feel it would be in Keegan's interests to look elsewhere.
"I am sure Keegan will find himself another club."
A strange move by Mixu, Ayre has been getting rave reviews at Easter Road, this may well come back to haunt the Hibees boss.
