Swindon Town set to sign ex Hibs winger Alan O'Brien

Released Hibs winger Alan O'Brien is on the verge of joining Coca Cola League One side Swindon Town.

Robins manager Danny Wilson is a long time admirer of the Republic of Ireland winger, having previously tried to sign him on loan from the Hibees, while in charge of Hartlepool.

O'Brien is a free agent after leaving the Hibees this week after agreeing a release from his contract.

He played 50 games for Hibs, following a much publicised transfer from English Premiership side Newcastle United, in a deal that cost the club £400,000 in compensation.

O'Brien is due in Swindon Sunday for talks, and Danny Wilson had this to say:

"We are due to speak to him on Sunday when he comes down here and hopefully we can get something sorted,

"He hasn't signed for us yet -but he is a player we would like to have on board because he has a lot of attributes.

"He is someone that we have been tracking for a while.

"There are some very good players in the Scottish Premier League and we have had some encouraging reports on him.

"Alan has outstanding pace and if he did agree to join us then he would be a player to excite the fans."

Wilson also added:

"What he will bring to us is that pace that every team needs and he'll cause problems in this division.

"He's still a young boy, not as many games under his belt as he should have at his age. We can give him an opportunity.

"He's got a great attitude, for a winger his defensive work is tremendous as well so he's got a lot attributes."

Good luck with that Mr Wilson.
