Hibs coach to step aside as soon as possible says doctors

Last updated : 28 September 2005 By Brian Hine
Ian Westwater the Hibenian Goalkeeping coach has been told by doctors that he has to give up his job due to a cruciate ligament knee injury picked up nearly 25 years ago near the start of his career.
The 41 year old who has had spells at Hearts, Dunfermline, Dundee and Falkirk is understandably shattered that he is to give up and find a less physical job and it will not be the same in the home dugout where he is ever present giving his vocal support to the team shouting out to the players and encouragement that I'm sure the whole ground hears when he lets rip.

said, on this news from his doctor

"I've been a professional footballer for 26 years, it's not only my life, my hobby and everything in between, but my livelihood so that when someone says that you cannot carry on it is a major blow.

Ian
has been told that it's not a case of giving up at the end of the season but he has to quit as soon as he can and Hibs are considering a testimonial for the man who has been at Easter Road for the past Five years.

Hibs will be losing not only a Goalkeeping coach, but a great personality, one that will be hard to replace.

We wish Ian the best for the future, and from all at Hibs-mad we thank him for his services to our club.

All the Best Ian
