The Edinburgh Evening News has tonight confirmed that Hibs defender Tom James is on the way out of the club.

Hibs are apparently talks with the English League One side Wigan Athletic, with a loan deal until January nearly complete.

It's thought a deal is close and that a deal could be done so James could play against Gillingham next weekend.

James has struggled to hold down a place under boss Jack Ross, despite being a regular starter under previous boss Paul Heckingbottom.

The form of Paul McGinn, David Gray and former full-back Jason Naismith stopped any chance of James breaking into the side

The 24-year-old Welsh U21 international is likely to be confirmed as a Wigan Athletic player in the coming week.

James started his career with Cardiff City, before moving on to Yeovil Town, making 96 appearances for the League Two club.

A good move for both player and the club.

James gets first team football at a good level, and Hibs free-up a wage they could use to bring another player in.

James has struggled since moving to the SPFL, and has not shown the type of quality to hold down a regular place.

He has also has the likes of Paul McGinn and David Gray to contend with.
