Hibs supremo Rod Petrie admits Scott Brown is talking to other clubs

Last updated : 15 May 2007 By Steve Forbes

Hibs chairman Rod Petrie today admitted that midfielder Scott Brown is in talks with 'a number of clubs'.

Brown has his pick of clubs and is wanted by a number of clubs in the Premiership as well as the Old Firm.

Petrie said:

"Everyone knows that the player will be leaving at the end of the season. It is not our practice to comment on things that are not agreed, but the player and his representative have been given permission to speak to a number of clubs.

"Obviously a number of clubs have been interested in him. Scott has done everything that we have asked of him. He said that he was happy to stay until the end of the season and we knew that he would have his pick of the teams.

"There is a lot for us to look forward to at this club. If and when it happens and Scott leaves the club, the focus will be on continuing to develop the side and we have a lot of good young players coming through.

"We have assembled a young team over the last two years . John Collins has said that the priority is the training centre and that is what we are focusing on at the moment."

Hibs boss John Collins also admitted that Brown was close to an exit from Easter Road, he said:

"The player and his agent have been given permission to speak to other clubs but, as far as I am concerned, Scott will play this weekend.

"We know that other teams are interested in him but he is a Hibs player and will stay that way until the final game of the season has been played and is out of the way. It is the final match but it is still a big game for us and we want to win it, to do that we need to have all of our best players available.

"We are looking forward to the game, we want to finish the season on a high and that would certainly be the case if we could beat the champions."

Despite reports in some newspapers, www.Hibernian-Mad.co.uk understands that the Celtic deal is NOT at done deal at this moment in time.

Brown is talking to
Middlesbrough, Everton and Tottenham amongst others, so there could still be a chance he could head south, although it now seems Celtic are favourites after bidding £4.4m.

According to varying reports, Everton have offered £5m, Tottenham £4.7m and
Middlesbrough £5.5m.

Let's hope Scott DOESN'T choose
Glasgow, but at this moment in time it's looking likelier by the minute.
