It was revealed today that THREE SPL clubs approached Hibs about the availability of midfield/striker Dean Shiels.

It was common knowledge that Inverness Caledonian Thistle came in for the 21-year-old Northern Ireland international during the summer transfer window, But only wanted him on loan, Hibs turned this deal down.

It was also revealed today that Aberdeen & Dundee Utd both made approaches as to the players availability, just as the window was about to shut.

Aberdeen's much maligned manager Jimmy Calderwood said:

"We did try to sign Dean Shiels from Hibs. I thought there was a good chance of him coming to us.

"He is a very good young player and I thought we had him until Hibs changed their minds."

He also refused to rule out a move for the player when the window re-opens on January 1st.

"January is a long way off and I'll have to see what his situation is then. But there will be other players."

Dundee Utd also approached Hibs, about Shiels, after they let former Jambo Lee Miller move to Aberdeen on a free, but they too were also told the player wasn't available.

Good move by Hibs not to let a player of Dean's ability leave the club, hopefully he will be held onto in January aswell.
