Hibs winger Martin Boyle signs new deal

Hibs have tonight confirmed that winger Martin Boyle has signed a new contract with the club.

The 27-year-old had less than a year left on his contract, but has agreed to a new deal that keeps him tied to Easter Road until summer 2023.

Boyle had been linked with a number of clubs during the summer, including Stoke City, Celtic and Sheffield Wednesday, but the Hibees have secured the future of the Australian international.

Speaking to the official club website, Boyle said:

“I’m really pleased to have signed the new contract and it’s no secret what the club means to me and my family.

“It was only yesterday that Rachael signed her own deal with Hibernian Women, and it was an easy decision for the pair of us to make.

“I was in the away dressing room at Easter Road earlier for some photography. The last time I was there was 10 years ago as a Montrose player. It’s been some journey since, and I still think my best years are ahead of me.

“I had some really positive conversations with Ron, Leeann, Graeme and the gaffer and it should be obvious how much we’re all enjoying our football just now. The results probably speak for themselves.

“We’ve given ourselves something to build on for the rest of the season and I’d love to add a few more highs to the ones I’ve already enjoyed.”

Hibs boss Jack Ross added:

“I’ve said often enough how much I value Martin’s contribution to the team, but I think that extends to the whole club.

“He’s a larger than life character. It’s easy to dismiss that as a laugh and a joke but it’s the kind of thing that can pull others along when the going gets tough.

“Martin also works incredibly hard on his game and that shouldn’t be overlooked. He’s matured into a player of real quality.”

Boyle has played 176 times for Hibs, scoring 33 goals.

He has written himself into Hibee folklore, as he was part of the 2016 Scottish Cup winning squad, as well as the 2017 Scottish Championship winning squad.

Hibs best signing of the summer.

Boyle has become our most important player over the last 12-18 months.

His rise has been incredible from when he first arrived from Dundee in a loan swap for Alex Harris in 2015.

If he had moved on (and he might still do) he would have gone with the best wishes of everyone at the club.

This new deal lands Boyle a much deserved wage rise, and secures a big fee for the club should he infact move on.
