Hibs boss Alan Stubbs has confirmed that defender Adam Eckersley will leave the club this month, when his contract runs out.
The 30-year-old only signed a short term deal in September after leaving Hearts in the summer.
Stubbs has confimed that Eckersley will leave after failing to gain fitness, and having never played a minute of action for the club.
The Hibs boss said:
“Adam won’t be staying with us.
“He’s possibly got an offer in Canada which he is keen to explore.
“He goes with our best wishes, it’s unfortunate that he’s not been able to get his match fitness up to scratch.
“He’s been fighting a groin issue and that’s prevented him from playing.”
Eckersley is one of a few players expected to leave the club in January.
Sam Stanton has already left on loan to Livingston until the end of the season, with Islam Feruz expected to have his loan deal from Chelsea ripped up and be allowed to leave.
Jordon Forster is expected to leave on loan, with Plymouth Argyle hot on his trail, and a number of others interested.
The future of Henri Anier is also up in the air, with Dundee Utd boss Mixu Paatelainen keen to get him back to Tannadice.
However United didn't insert a recall clause in the loan deal, and there is another clause, which allows Hibs to extend his loan, should they wish.
