English Championship side Barnsley have today been linked with a double swoop on the Hibees for strikers Derek Riordan and Colin Nish.

Tykes manager Mark Robins is keen to bolster his attacking options for next season, and hopes to sign the Hibees duo.

Barnsley would face competition for both players, as both are said to be on the radar of a number of sides.

Nish is wanted by Mark McGhee at Aberdeen, but due to the Dons financial constraints, Barnsley could blow them out the water on a transfer fee and wages.

6ft 3in forward Nish, 29, scored 12 goals this season, 5 in the last 2 games, and helped secure European football next season for the Hibees.

Hibs signed Nish from Kilmarnock in a £150,000 deal two years ago, and a move to the Championship may appeal to the big forward, after his recent falling out with the clubs fans.

27-year-old Riordan’s possible transfer is a different kettle of fish for the Tykes, he is a massive fans favourite following two spells at the club, he has scored 18 goals this season, and 30 since returning from an ill fated spell at Celtic, in a £400,000 deal two seasons ago.

In all Riordan has scored over 80 goals since breaking through the Hibees famous youth system, and it would take a massive offer to tempt Hibs to sell, especially with the way they lost the talented forward to Celtic the first time around.

The one thing in Barnsley’s favour however, is the fact Riordan is currently in talks with the Players Union, following a terrible decision by the club to fine the player, for criticising the Easter Road pitch.

The Scotland international was fined a weeks wages, about £4,000, for his comments in the press.

The bad news for Barnsley is that Riordan is a wanted man, with Bundesliga sides Nuremberg and Kaiserslautern, as well as Russian giants Lokomotiv Moscow all keen on the player.
