Besiktas join race for Hibs defender Ryan Porteous

Last updated : 14 June 2021 By Steve Forbes

According to Turkish Online Sports newspaper Fanatik, Besiktas have joined rivals Galatasaray in the hunt to sign Hibs defender Ryan Porteous.

The 22-year-old was linked with a summer move to the Super Lig with Gala last week, Besiktas, who pipped Gala to the title on goal difference, are now hopeful of landing the Scotland squad player.

Besiktas head to their pre-season training camp on July 5th, and they are looking to complete a deal for the Hibs defender before then.

Hibs look like they might struggle to hold on to their academy graduate, having already turned down a £1m+ January offer from Millwall.

QPR have also been linked with Porteous, and he may have a choice to make.

Galatasaray and Besiktas will both be playing Champions League football next season, giving Porteous a bigger platform as he looks to establish himself in the Scotland team.

Another club linked with Porteous can only be good news for Hibs, from the point of view of the fee.

It's looking more and more likely that the Hibees will lose the kid over the summer.

A move to Turkey and Champions League footbll would be incredible for both his development and bank balance.

With the likes of QPR and Millwall said to still be interested, Hibs will be hoping a bidding war will start.

Jack Ross will be hoping to keep the player, but a good fee could be re-invested in the squad, and strengthen it, ahead of European football next season.
