Hibs' defender Gary Caldwell has been called into Berti Vogts first ever Scotland squad.

The on loan Newcastle United starlet, is one of six uncapped players to be brought into the squad to face World Champions France, Kevin McNaughton of Aberdeen, Dundee United's Steven Thompson and Paul Gallacher, Stephen Crainey of Celtic, and Rangers' Stephen Hughes being the others.

Former Hibs striker Stevie Crawford has also been called up, but Vogts' continued the work of Craig Brown by snubbing Hibs captain John O'Neil, despite him being in fine form. Vogts preferred to go with Scot Gemmill.

Hibs young hotshot Garry O'Connor has been put on standby for the squad, after some fine performances, showing how far he has come in such a short time.
