English League One side Colchester United have revealed, via their official website, that they have lodged a bid for Hibs captain Rob Jones.

According to the U's website a six figure sum has been offered for the 6ft 7in giant centre half and they await a reply from Hibs.

Colchester currently sit in 11th place in the League One table and it remains to be seen if Jones would be interested in the move, should Hibs accept the offer.

Jones, 29, arrived at Easter Road from Grimsby Town in 2006 for a fee in the region of £100,000.
The English defender was handed the captaincy and promptly led the Hibees to silverware - winning the 2007 Scottish League Cup.

The former school teacher has now played over 100 games and scored 10 goals for the Hibees.

Leeds United and Ipswich Town both failed in bids of £1m for Jones last season.

Colchester are currently managed by ex Scotland international Paul Lambert.
