Hibs put in an impressive display this evening, as they handed out a heavy defeat to Faroe Island side NSI Runavik in the Europa League 1st Qualifying Round, 1st Leg.

The Hibees running out 6-1 winners at Easter Road this evening.

There was no place in the side for John McGinn, whose future is still unclear after two failed bids from Celtic.

A Florian Kamberi hat-trick, a double from new boy Stevie Mallan and a goal from youngster Oli Shaw was enough for the Hibees to put one foot in the next round.

Runavik made life difficult for themselves by going down to 10 men before half-time when Einar Hansen was sent off in the 33rd minute.

Hibs took the lead through Kamberi with only 2 minutes on the clock, the big Swiss forward chopped down in the box. He stepped up to score, but the Runavik keeper came close to saving the spot kick.

It was 2-0 on 21 minutes when the always dangerous Martin Boyle whipped in a cross, that Kamberi dispatched at the near post.

29 minutes gone, and it was 3-0. Youngster Oli Shaw stepping aside a couple of challenges, before smashing the ball past the keeper from 20 yards.

New signing from Barnsley Stevie Mallan then got in on the act, hitting a speculative shot from about 25 yards, which the Runavik keeper should have held, but the ball squirmed under him to give the Hibees a commanding 4-0 at the break.

The second half started the same way the first finished, with the Hibees scoring number 5 on 48 minutes, when Kamberi completed his hat-trick when he finished a through ball from Paul Hanlon.

Runavik then pulled a goal back on 53 minutes, when Petur Knudsen hit a 25 yard free-kick past Hibs keeper Adam Bogdan, which looked like it deflected off the wall in the way.

Hibs got their final goal on 84 minutes, when Stevie Mallan hit a cracking free-kick of his own, right in the top corner, despite the visiting keeper getting a hand to it.

It could have been more for the Hibees in truth, with Kamberi hitting the bar, and Stevenson the post, but all in a good result to take to the Faroe Islands next week.
