Freed Hibs striker Patrick Deane signs for Darlington

Released Hibs striker Patrick Deane has tonight signed for English League Two outfit Darlington.

The 19-year-old has been without a club after being released by Hibs boss John Hughes, but a trial period at the Quakers has landed the youngster a contract.

Deane was part of the Hibees all conquering, treble winning, U19 side last season, and was one of the seven who were handed contracts by then boss Mixu Paatelainen.

When Hughes took over in the summer he decided to let Deane seek pastures new, due to the amount & quality of strikers at Easter Road.

Patrick would have had to try and oust Derek Riordan, Anthony Stokes, Abdessalam Benjelloun & Colin Nish, along with U19 strike partner Kurtis Byrne to get himself in to first team reckoning.

Deane has signed until the end of the season, and may come in to contention for tomorrow's game with Aldershot, and becomes Darlington manager Steve Staunton’s sixth January signing.

Hibernian-Mad would like to take this opportunity to wish Patrick all the very best for the future.
