Freed Hibs youngster Ewan Moyes is currently on trial with English League Two side Crewe Alexandra.

The 20-year-old centre half has been told his contract will not be renewed at Easter Road when it expires in the summer.

Moyes is currently on loan with Brechin City, and previously spent time on trial with Arbroath, and has racked up 60 games in experience during that time.

News of the players release from the club came as a bit of s surprise amongst the support, as Moyes had been tipped as a star of the future for the Hibees.

However, Hibs boss Colin Calderwood has decided to release the youngster, and it seems his famous uncle (Everton boss David Moyes), has landed the player at trial with Crewe.

Moyes is said to have impressed in a reserve game against Blackburn Rovers, and Crewe boss Dario Gradi said:

We have a centre-half and a centre forward on trial playing for the reserves.

“We have a boy who has been playing in Scotland. A lot of people want their nephews to come here because we have a good reputation of making them into something and moving them on.”

Crewe already have an ex Hibs player on their books, top goalscorer Clayton Donaldson, who they signed in 2008 for a fee in the region of £200,000.

Donaldson played 18 games for the Hibees, scoring 6 goals.
