Hibs defender Sol Bamba is being linked with a stunning move to French Ligue 1 side Lille, it’s been reported today.

The 24-year-old centre half is currently with the Ivory Coast as they prepare for the African Nations Cup, but according to reports in today’s press, he has already held talks with the French side.

Bamba is thought to be keen on a move to a more “high profile” league, in an attempt to keep his international place with the Elephants.

The Hibees signed Bamba from 1st division side Dunfermline for a bargain £50,000 in the summer of 2008.

It’s thought Lille could be ready to weigh in with a bid in the region of £2m to land the player before the transfer window closes on February 1st.

Former club Dunfermline Athletic will be due 10% of any transfer fee, after their ex boss Jim Leishman added a clause in the deal that took Bamba to Hibs.

This means Bamba could already have played his last game in a green and white shirt, as the African Nations Cup doesn’t finish until January 31st, and with Ivory Coast huge favourites, it’s likely he will be with them until then.

Bamba is no stranger to French football, having started his career at Paris St Germain before moving to Dunfermline.
