Hibs appoint Billy Brown as assistant manager!!!

Hibs boss Colin Calderwood today made the highly controversial decision to appoint former Hearts No.2 Billy Brown as his assistant at Easter Road.

Calderwood hasn't had an assistant since the short reign of Derek Adams, who resigned as Ross County boss to take the post, only to then resign as Hibs No.2 and re-take his former job as Ross County manager, just a few months later.

Brown, of course, is considered a bit of a legend down Gorgie, having been No.2 to Jim Jeffries at the big pink bus shelter on two ocassions, the first one producing a Scottish Cup win in 1998.

He has also been No.2 to Jeffries at both Berwick Rangers, Falkirk Bradford City and Kilmarnock.

The 60-year-old only lost his job at Tynecastle, in controversial circumstances, a couple of months ago, and it comes as shock that he has now returned to football at Easter Road.

Speaking to the official club website, Brown said:

"It is a new challenge and a new chapter in my career and I'm looking forward to it; starting with the match at Dunfermline on Saturday.

"I've still got lots of enthusiasm for the game and the ambition to do well - now I want to help Colin to enjoy success this season.

"I think Colin has got a good chance of doing well at the club and hopefully my experience can assist him to achieve that goal.

"I worked alongside Jim  for 23 years and during that time we had a lot of success. When I spoke to Jim about this opportunity, he told me to go for it and that I had his best wishes.

"There aren't many jobs in Scottish football more desirable than working for Hibernian."

Hibs boss Colin Calderwood was also delighted with the appointment, he said:

"I am delighted to be able to add someone with Billy's experience, drive and enthusiasm to the backroom staff; he will be a real asset to the coaching team.

"Billy is a Musselburgh man and very focused and passionate for whichever club he works for.

"What I like about him is that he stands his corner and backs his players. He is totally committed and a great character to have around the place.

"Whenever I've come across Billy in the past I've been impressed by him both as a coach and as a person and I'm looking forward to working alongside him."

Welcome to the club Billy, from everyone at Hibernian-Mad.
