Hibs boss Fenlon rules out move for Kevin Thomson

Hibs boss Pat Fenlon has revealed that the club is unlikely to re-sign midfielder Kevin Thomson.

The former club captain has been training at the Hibees £5m East Mains training facility for the past couple of weeks, after approaching the club following his release from Chamiponship side Middlesbrough.

“Kevin is just training with us. We don’t have any money to do anything, so it’s not as if I’m pushing for anything.

“I spoke to Kevin, he was looking for training facilities and that is all there is at the moment – although in football you never know.

“Even reaching the Cup semi-final wouldn’t free up any more cash.

“In fairness to the club, when I took the job I knew where we were. We lost money last year and it’s difficult to get the balance right.”

Thomson left Easter Road in 2007 in a controversial move to Rangers for a £2m fee.

He spent over 3 years at Ibrox, winning both the Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup, as well as reaching the Uefa Cup Final in 2008.

Thomson then sealed a £2m move to Middlesbrough in 2010, but his time at the Riverside was spent mostly on the treatment table, in an injury ravaged spell with the club. Boro released him in January 2013.
