Hibs boss Hughes eyes Falkirk keeper Dani Mallo

Last updated : 10 June 2009 By Steve Forbes

Hibs are today being linked heavily with a move for Falkirk goalkeeper Daniel Mallo.

Hughes signed the 30-year-old Spaniard for Falkirk in January on a six-month deal, one that is about to run out.

Mallo would be a replacement for out going, former Dundee Utd keeper Grzegorz Szamotulski.

Ex Hibs boss Mixu Paatelainen signed Polish goalkeeper Szamotulski in January on a short term deal, a deal that has now expired, leaving the Hibees with only mistake prone Belgian Yves Ma-Kalambay and 19-year-old Thomas Flynn - goalkeeper for the Hibees all conquering U19 side.

New Hibs gaffer John Hughes admitted today that a goalkeeper was high on the agenda, and that he had already started to get the ball rolling on that front, although the 44-year-old would not reveal who he had in mind.

Hughes said:

"I'll have to address that situation, we only have the big fellow and then Thomas Flynn who, at 19, is untested although I'll be having a really good look at him."

Mallo has played for La Liga giants Deportivo La Coruna, as well as Elche and Portuguese side Sporting Braga.
