Hibs boss John Collins has moved to back his skipper Rob Jones in the defenders contract dispute with the club.

Jones, 27, is disappointed with the offer on the table from Hibs, despite only serving one year of the four year deal he signed when he arrived from
Grimsby Town last summer.

The big Englishman is also said to be disappointed that Hibs turned down a bid of £400,000 from English league one side Leeds Utd.

According to Jones, ex Hibs boss Tony Mowbray promised the player that his contract would be reviewed if he proved himself at SPL level. The 6ft 7in defenders agent went to a tabloid on Wednesday and now Hibs boss Collins has backed Jones.

The Hibees boss said:

"Rob is a strong character and I am not expecting anything but a good performance, that's all that's important.

"Rob tells me he is fully committed to the club and he has trained that way this week. Rob is a big part of our team and we need a real team performance tomorrow."
