Hibs fans have been handed the news they were dreading tonight, with the news that full back, David Murphy, has signed for English Premiership side Birmingham City.

The fee agreed is still not clear, Birmingham City are reporting on their official website that they have landed the player pending a medical for £1.5m but Murph's agent, Willie McKay, was on radio earlier tonight saying the deal will net Hibs £2.2m.

Other reports of the final deal are that Hibs get £1.5m upfront, with a further £500,000 after "x" amount of games and another £500,000 if the Blues stay up.

Wigan Athletic and Bolton Wanderers are thought to have made 11th hour bids for the player, but Murphy agreed to join Alex McLeish at Birmingham.

Murphy has agreed terms, thought to be in the region of a cool £20,000 a week and will undergo a medical tomorrow, before signing on the dotted line at St Andrews.

Whatever the final fee, it's another substantial transfer fee that the club has landed, let's hope the board see sense and re-invest it in our struggling squad. Our debt is down to virtually nothing and we now have a state of the art training facility, it's time to pump some cash into some quality additions, to have us qualifying for
Europe and winning more trophies.

Everyone here a www.Hibernian-Mad.co.uk would like to say a massive thank you to David for everything he has achieved at Easter Road.

He goes as a legend, one of the best left backs this club has ever seen, he's part of our 2007 CIS cup winning squad and landed the club a good fee by signing a long term contract.

After a few seasons at the Blues, he's bound to land himself an even bigger move.

Good luck David from everyone at Hibernian-Mad
