Hibs have emerged as hot favourites to sign out-of-contract Carlisle United defender Richard Keogh.

Keogh has been watched by both Hibs manager John Hughes and his assistant Brian Rice in the last few months, and both are thought to be impressed with the player.

The 23-year-old Ireland U21 international is prominently a right back, but can also play centre half.

Keogh has recently been voted Carlisle Player of the Year and is a popular player with the Cumbrian side’s supporters.

Despite Keogh being out-of-contract, the Hibees will have to pay a compensation fee of between £50,000 and £100,000 to the League One side, because he will still be under the age of 24 when his contract expires

As well as Carlisle Keogh has played for Stoke City and Bristol City amongst others.
