Hibs interested in Gavin Rae

Hibs boss Pat Fenlon has today admitted his interest in veteran Dundee midfielder Gavin Rae.

The Hibees had been chasing St Mirren hardman Jim Goodwin, but the Irish player turned down a move to Easter Road, and stayed with the Buddies.

Fenlon has now turned his attention to the former Cardiff City and Rangers midfielder Rae.

Fenlon said:

“I watched Gavin play in Dundee’s Scottish Cup replay and he did quite well.

“There are players we are still talking to, and he is one who fits the bill in relation to experience and his know-how and his knowledge of the league.”

The 15 times capped Scotland internationalist has recently signed a new deal at Dens Park, but it's understood he has a gentlemen's agreement to be released should a bigger club come in for him.

Rae, 34, is in his second spell at Dundee, after starting his career there, before moving on to Rangers, and then Cardiff City, before returning to Dens in November.

In other news, Arsenal youngster Rhys Murphy has returned to London after a trial spell at East Mains.

The striker scored in a 3-0 bounce game against Partick Thistle, but has returned to the Gunners after picking up an injury, and Hibs won't be following up their interest.
