Hibs interested in Slovakian defender Lubo Michalik

Hibs have today been linked with a move for Slovakian international Lubo Michalik.

The 6ft 4in centre back is out-of-contract at current club Carlisle United, and Hibees boss Pat Fenlon is said to be keen to partner him with James McPake in the centre of the Hibees defence.

28-year-old Michalik started his career with Senec in his homeland, before landing a move to Bolton Wanderers in 2007.

Michalik made 11 appearances for Bolton, before being loaned out to Leeds United.

He impressed enough at Leeds to be offered a permanent deal, and signed in a £500,000 deal in 2008.

After over 50 games with Leeds, he was again loaned out, this time to Carlisle United.

Again, he impressed enough in an initial loan period. He went back to Leeds, agreed a termination and signed for Carlisle in January 2011.

Michalik is out-of-contract at Brunton Park, but has been offered a new deal by the League One side, but Hibs seem keen to land him.

He has been capped 8 times by Slovakia, the latest coming this week, in a 1-0 defeat to Poland.
