Hibs Ladies sign Aussie defender Stacey Papadopoulos

Last updated : 01 June 2024 By Steve Forbes

Hibs Ladies have announced their first acquisition of the summer transfer window.

Following the departure of Leah Eddie to Sevco, as anticipated, and the retirement of the esteemed Joelle Murray, manager Grant Scott has acted swiftly to strengthen his defence.

Stacey Papadopoulos, a 27-year-old Australian defender, has been signed from the Women's A-League team Western United. Papadopoulos has agreed to a two-year contract with the Hibees, pending international clearance.

Her previous tenure was with Calder United, where she secured a cup double before moving to Western United.

Speaking to the official club website, she said:

“I want to give my best for the team and make sure that we’re able to compete in every game, finish higher in the table and compete with the bigger sides.”

Hibs boss Grant Scott added:

“Stacey brings exceptional talent and experience to our squad, and we are thrilled to welcome her to Hibernian.”

“Her defensive skill and leadership on the field will be invaluable assets as we aim to achieve our goals in the coming seasons. We believe Stacey's addition will bolster our defensive options.

“We look forward to welcoming her to Edinburgh and seeing her thrive in green and white over the next two seasons.”

HIBERNIAN-MAD VIEW

Good to see Hibs move so quickly and land a replacement defender for the up-coming season.

Stacey looks like she has good pedigree and should add some much needed steel to the Ladies backline.
