Hibs land McPake on loan

Hibs have this afternoon confirmed the signing of Coventry City defender James McPake.

The 27-year-old joins the Hibees on loan until the end of the season, as they look to pull themselves out of the relegation mire.

McPake joined the Sky Blues from Livingston in 2009, for a fee in the region of £150,000.

The centre half joins just 48 hours after the Hibees shambolic defensive display at home to St Johnstone on Saturday, and hopefully will bolster a weak back four.

Speaking to the offcial club wesbite, he said:

"I'm really pleased to be on board with Hibs and can't wait to get started.

"Ever since I moved down the road, I've watched a lot of SPL football and I cannot believe a club of Hibernian's size are in the position they're in.

"In order to get us back on the right track, we've got to give everything in every match - something that I'm planning to do," he added.

"That starts at Rangers on Saturday and if I'm selected then I will hopefully add a wee bit of steel and commitment to our defence.

"We need to be harder to break down and I will be doing everything I can to make that happen."

Hibs are also said to be close to completing the signings of Stoke City pair Michael Tonge and Tom Soares on loan until the end of the season.

Manager Pat Fenlon is also interested in signing St Mirren captain Jim Goodwin and has been credited with an interest in Hearts midfielder Ryan Stevenson, with the Gorgie club wanting £100,000 for the player.
