Hibs have today revealed that legendary defender Lewis Stevenson has signed a new deal with the club.
The 35-year-old left back has signed a new 12 month contract keeping him tied to Easter Road until the summer of 2024.
Stevenson has played 572 games for the Hibees, and is currently fourth on the Hibees all time appearance holder list behind Pat Stanton (617), Arthur Duncan (626) and Gordon Smith (636).
He recently became the club's record highest LEAGUE appearance holder and is now hunting down Pat Stanton in 3rd place in the all time list.
Stevenson is, of course, the only player in the Hibees history to have lifted both the Scottish League Cup, in 2007 and the Scottish Cup in 2016.
Speaking to the official club website, Lewy said:
“Everyone knows how much Hibs means to me and I’d like to play here for the rest of my career.
“I feel pretty good, there are little things I can’t do that I did 10 years ago, but I still feel good physically, and feel like I can help the team both on and off the pitch.
“I never imagined I’d go on to make as many appearances for Hibs as I have, but I want to keep working hard, playing, and have more success here.”
Hibs boss Lee Johnson added:
“In this modern day and age, it’s not often you have a player that shows the kind of loyalty Lewy has to Hibs.
“He has rightly written his name into the Club’s history books and I think everyone can see that he’s still going strong.
“He’s really humble, a fantastic human-being, and is exactly the type of person we want at this Football Club, so we’re delighted that he will stay with us for another year.”
HIBERNIAN-MAD VIEW:
This is just brilliant news coming out of the club.
Lewy is a living legend, and has proved with his performances lately that he can still cut-it in the Premiership.
There had been rumours recently doing the rounds, that he had been offered a player/coach role with Raith Rovers, the club he supported as a kid growing up in Kirkcaldy, but this news has put that to bed.
Excellent news, can Lewy catch Pat Stanton, or even better, Arthur Duncan and Gordon Smith?
He has another er to get closer.
