Hibs boss Mixu Paatelainen has today revealed that the Hibees are in negotiations with midfielder Dean Shiels over a new contract.

The 23-year-old, who's current deal runs out at the end of the season, is keen to stay at Easter Road despite interest from a number of clubs.

Doncaster Rovers, Burnley, Plymouth Argyle, Crystal Palace, Coventry City and Ipswich Town are all keeping an eye on the players situation at the Hibees, and are waiting to pounce should he fail to agree terms at Easter Road.

Shiels arrived at Easter Road in the summer of 2004 from English Premiership side Arsenal, signed by then boss Tony Mowbray, and has went on to make 145 appearances for the Hibees, scoring 31 goals.

He has also been capped 7 times by Northern Ireland while plying his trade in Edinburgh.

Hibs boss Paatelainen is hopeful Shiels will stay at Easter Road and said:

"We are talking, everyone understands the nature of negotiations, you carry on until you find a solution.

"He likes everything about it here, the club, the football we play, Edinburgh. He is really happy. And obviously I want him to stay, otherwise we wouldn't be talking."
