Hibs boss Neil Lennon has today confirmed that he has made a move for Birmingham attacking midfielder Andrew Shinnie.

The 27-year-old Scotland internationalist has apparently been told by the Midlands club that he can go, and Lennon has made his move.

Shinnie, an attacking midfielder, moved to the Blues under freedom of contract from Inverness Caley in 2014 and impressed enough to sign a contract extension in 2015.

However, he fell out-of-favour and was loaned out to Rotherham United in January 2016, but only managed a handful of games.

Shinnie has also had spells with Rangers, Dundee and Inverness.

Hibs boss Neil Lennon said:

"We have spoken to the club and we have spoken to the player," Lennon told BBC Scotland.

"There is no guarantee it will get done but we have made our interest known so we are hoping something may get done in the next couple of days.

"He is a quality player," added Lennon. "I have always liked him. I liked him at Inverness.

"He has gone down and had a very good time at Birmingham. He is available and when a good player becomes available and is within our budget we will look at it.

"He is a good athlete in terms of his physicality. He gets about the pitch well and has a goal in him."
