Hibs midfielder Fabian Yantorno joins Hamilton on loan!

Last updated : 28 January 2009 By Steve Forbes

Hibs have today allowed Uruguayan midfield ace Fabian Yantorno to join fellow SPL side Hamilton Accies on loan until the end of the season.

The 26-year-old attacking midfielder has struggled to hold down a regular place after coming back from a career threatening injury at the start of the season.

Yantorno signed a 2-year-deal with the Hibees at the start of the season, after boss Mixu Paatelainen offered him a career lifeline.

Yantorno suffered a horror knee injury while playing for Gretna against Falkirk last season, and was then dumped on the football scrapheap when now defunct Gretna couldn't afford to pay for the players rehabilitation.

Hibs offered Yantorno the use of the clubs new £5m state-of-the-art training centre at East Mains while he recovered, and Yantorno impressed enough to be offered deal.

So far Yantorno has failed to hold down a regular first team spot, and Paatelainen has allowed the player to join Hamilton on loan to get some games under his belt.

Paatelainen has insisted however, that the loan move does not signal the end of Yantorno's Easter Road career.

He said:

"Fabian is a talented player, someone who can upset opposition defences but it is important he gets first-team action and hopefully that's what he will get with Hamilton and comes back a better player.

"Having brought in Rosa, a midfield player who is quite similar, I felt it was best for Fabian to go there.

"If some want to look at it negatively then so be it, but I see him going there, getting first-team action, coming back with that under his belt and 100 per cent ready to go for next season and we will be better off for it."

Let's hope Hibs give the boy a chance when he comes back fitter. A cracking little player who hasn't been given a proper chance at Easter Road.
